Funded PhD at Monash University Malaysia focused on improving medication use and patient outcomes in disorders of gut-brain interaction through clinical and patient-centered research.

Project Description

This PhD project investigates the quality use of medications among patients with disorders of gut-brain interaction (DGBI), including conditions such as irritable bowel syndrome and functional gastrointestinal disorders. These conditions affect a significant portion of the population and are often associated with both physical and psychological symptoms. Psychotropic medications are commonly used, but their effectiveness is limited by challenges such as stigma, lack of evidence, and poor adherence. The project aims to: Examine current medication use practices Understand patient and clinical perspectives Identify barriers to effective treatment Explore shared decision-making gaps Develop patient-centered interventions The research integrates clinical insights with patient-reported experiences to improve treatment outcomes and healthcare delivery.
