Project Description

This PhD project is part of the SensABLATE programme, a collaborative research initiative developing next-generation precision imaging technologies for lung cancer therapy. The research aims to create an intraoperative decision-support platform by combining advanced optical imaging with artificial intelligence for real-time tissue viability assessment and therapy guidance. The project focuses on advanced optical imaging AI-based image analysis real-time tissue assessment translational biophotonics intelligent imaging platforms for clinical deployment SensABLATE brings together academic, clinical, and industry partners and supports the development of next-generation medical device innovation in Ireland.

Entry Requirements

Level 8 Honours degree (First or Second Class) or Master’s degree in Laser Physics, Biophotonics, Physics (Applied, Medical, Optical), Bioengineering/Biomedical Engineering, Computer Science, Medical Imaging or Computational Imaging. Experience with machine learning, image analysis, and scientific computing required. Desirable: PyTorch/TensorFlow experience, biomedical optics, hyperspectral imaging, laser sensing, real-time systems, embedded processing. IELTS Academic 6.0 overall (minimum 5.5 in each component) if applicable.
