Funded PhD at Monash University Malaysia exploring the socioeconomic impact of gut-brain disorders like IBS. Combine real-world clinical data and patient insights to improve healthcare outcomes.
Project Description
This PhD project investigates the socioeconomic burden of Disorders of Gut–Brain Interaction (DGBI), including conditions such as Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS), Functional Dyspepsia (FD), and Functional Constipation (FC).
The research will focus on understanding both the healthcare system impact and patient experience, using a dual-method approach:
Retrospective cohort analysis of healthcare resource utilisation (HRU) from medical records
Cross-sectional surveys assessing productivity loss and quality of life (QoL)
By integrating clinical data with patient-reported outcomes, this project aims to deliver a comprehensive understanding of economic burden and real-life impact.
This research will contribute to:
Improved healthcare policy and planning
Better patient support strategies
Enhanced understanding of chronic gastrointestinal conditions
This is a strong opportunity for candidates interested in health research, epidemiology, and real-world data analysis.
