Project Description

This PhD project investigates the rise in economic inactivity in Wales, particularly following COVID-19, and its implications for labour supply, economic growth, and public policy. The research will use large-scale secondary microdata to analyse trends, identify key drivers such as long-term health conditions, and examine transitions between labour market states. It will compare Wales with other UK regions and explore how factors such as job quality, household circumstances, and local context influence inactivity. The project is conducted in collaboration with the Welsh Government and aims to produce policy-relevant insights to inform employability and health interventions.
