Bioavailability In Silico Techniques Food Bioactives Metabolomics Gut Microbiome Pharmaceutical Chemistry

Project Description

Project Overview The PhD focuses on exploring the bioavailability and metabolism of health-promoting bioactives found in olive and bilberry foods, applying cutting-edge in silico simulation techniques. Part of the BioTransform MSCA Doctoral Network, the project aims to elucidate how these compounds and their metabolites impact human health, employing complementary approaches like metabolomics, gut microbiome analysis, and biochemical profiling. What You Will Do You will undertake interdisciplinary research combining pharmacology, pharmaceutical chemistry, and computational biology. The project involves developing in silico tools to predict ADMET properties, participating in in vitro and in vivo studies, and collaborating across multiple European research institutions. You will also engage in international secondments, workshops, and training activities within the BioTransform consortium. Expected Outcomes The research will generate new knowledge on the metabolism of olive and bilberry food bioactives, contributing widely to food science and health. You will develop advanced predictive models for bioavailability and toxicity and enhance understanding of gut microbiome interactions. The project aims to support future innovations in nutritional therapeutics and dietary interventions. Why It Matters Understanding the metabolism of food bioactives is crucial for designing effective dietary strategies that promote health and prevent disease. By focusing on European flagship products with proven metabolic benefits, this project addresses significant gaps in knowledge, leveraging state-of-the-art science to impact food science, pharmacology, and human health on a global scale.
