Project Description

Aston University invites applications for a fully funded PhD within the School of Law and Social Sciences, starting October 2026. The studentship supports original and methodologically rigorous research aligned with the School’s areas of expertise, including criminology, English, history, international relations, law, politics, and sociology. Interdisciplinary proposals are encouraged, particularly those connected to research centres such as the Aston Institute for Forensic Linguistics and the Centre for Migration and Forced Displacement. The School provides a collaborative and inclusive research environment, with strong links to policy, public, and third-sector organizations.

Entry Requirements

First or Upper Second Class undergraduate degree and a Master’s degree (Merit or Distinction) in a relevant field
• Strong academic background and research potential
• Background in applied linguistics or cognitive stylistics (preferred)
• Experience in empirical literary studies or reader response analysis (desirable)
• English language proficiency (if applicable)
