Fully funded MSCA Doctoral Network offering 15 PhD positions across Europe, focused on applying statistical and condensed matter physics to understand emergence in biological systems through interdisciplinary modelling and analysis.

Project Description

CAFE-BIO is a Marie Skłodowska-Curie Doctoral Network involving 12 leading European research institutions, coordinated by the University of Edinburgh. The programme focuses on understanding how complex biological behaviours emerge from interactions between system components. The research applies methods from statistical and condensed matter physics to biological systems, addressing problems involving many interacting elements and intrinsic noise. Projects combine modelling and analytical techniques from multiple scientific disciplines. The network offers structured doctoral training including local graduate school programmes, secondments in academic and non-academic institutions, workshops, conferences, and transferable skills training. Each student will follow an individual career development plan and participate in collaborative network activities.

Entry Requirements

Strong background in physics, mathematics, or related quantitative fields.
Candidates with biological sciences background must have strong quantitative skills.
Must comply with MSCA mobility rule (no more than 12 months in host country in last 3 years).
