Project Description

This studentship, funded by G-Research, supports a 4-year PhD within the SustAI CDT at the University of Southampton. The programme focuses on cutting-edge research at the intersection of artificial intelligence and sustainability. Students will join the SustAI cohort starting September 2026 and work across key themes including: AI for Sustainable Operations and Circular Economy AI for Transportation and Logistics AI for Sustainable Energy and Buildings AI for the Natural Environment Sustainable AI The programme offers a strong interdisciplinary environment combining AI, environmental science, and systems thinking. Students benefit from both academic supervision and direct engagement with G-Research through mentorship, networking events, and participation in programmes such as “Spring into Quant Finance.” The PhD also includes professional development, research training, and opportunities for impactful work addressing real-world sustainability challenges.

Entry Requirements

Must meet SustAI PhD entry requirements
Strong academic background in Mathematics, AI, Machine Learning, Statistics, or related fields
Minimum UK 2:1 (or equivalent from a high-ranking university)
Must submit a research proposal aligned with SustAI themes
