Project Description

In the last few years, through our five faculties and 8 competence centres, we have invested significantly in implementing and boosting our research activities. We focus a lot on the training of young researchers. Seven well-structured PhD programmes enable them to pursue a career in academia. Detailed information, the calls and the access to the application portal can be found on the respective PhD programme page: Food Engineering and Biotechnology Mountain Environment and Agriculture Experimental Research through Design, Art and Technologies Management Advanced-Systems Engineering Computer Science Sustainable Energy and Technologies Application and Admission You can find key information to apply and gain admission to these PhD programmes by clicking on the above links. Directions to the calls and the application portal can be found at the bottom of each webpage. Admission to PhD programmes is by open competition. Applicants are selected on the basis of their educational and research background, language skills, and in some cases written tests and an interview. Applications for our PhD programmes are closed. Please register your interest ahead of our next application call by contacting phd@unibz.it Structure The courses offered by unibz are full-time PhD programmes. The teaching and research curriculum is carefully structured and includes a research stay abroad of at least three months. The minimum duration of the PhD programme is three years. Students can write their dissertations in German, Italian or English. In exceptional cases, the dissertation may be written in other languages. Scholarships and financial help For most of our PhD positions, unibz funds scholarships of €28,000 per year (including tax). For research trips abroad, funding can increase up to 50%. Other research activities (conferences, research trips, summer schools, etc.) are funded through individually allocated travel bursaries. Further grants are offered by the Ministero degli Affari Esteri e della Cooperazione Internazionale. About the university The Free University of Bozen-Bolzano is located in one of the most fascinating European regions, at the crossroads between the German-speaking and Italian economies and cultures. Its trilingualism in teaching and research, its high level of internationalisation as well as an ideal study environment guaranteed by its excellent facilities are some of the reasons why unibz regularly reaches top positions in national and international rankings.
