Project Description

This predoctoral university assistant position at University of Klagenfurt is part of the Embedded Communication Systems Group led by Prof. Andrea Tonello. The research covers a broad range of topics including machine learning, wireless communications, signal processing, power line communications, and embedded electronic systems. The project is flexible and will be tailored to the candidate’s background and interests. Key research directions include: Machine learning applied to communication, energy, biomedical, and vision systems Wireless and power line communication systems Signal processing, sensing, and information theory Embedded systems, IoT, robotics, and smart systems The position combines independent doctoral research with teaching duties, student mentoring, and departmental support activities. The group actively publishes in top venues including IEEE journals and leading ML conferences such as NeurIPS, ICML, and ICLR. The environment is highly international and research-intensive, with strong industry and academic collaborations.

Entry Requirements

Applicants must have:
A Master’s degree (or equivalent) in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Communications Engineering, Informatics, or related field
Strong background in:
Machine learning, signal processing, communications theory, or control systems
Solid mathematical foundation (engineering mathematics + statistics)
Programming skills (Python, MATLAB, C/C++, or similar tools)
Ability to clearly present technical ideas in English
Desirable:
German language skills
Prior research experience or publications
International academic exposure
