Fully funded joint PhD between the University of Sydney and University of Glasgow developing responsible AI systems for actionable homelessness interventions across different welfare regimes.
Project Description
This collaborative PhD project develops responsible AI methods to support decision-making in homelessness services.
The research moves beyond predictive models to design AI systems that recommend actionable interventions, using counterfactual explanations to identify optimal combinations of support strategies. It integrates interaction modelling, uncertainty quantification, and equity auditing to ensure fair and effective outcomes.
The project adopts a cross-national framework, comparing welfare systems in Australia and the UK, and involves participatory co-design with service providers to ensure practical relevance.
The student will undertake research across both institutions, with time split between the University of Sydney and the University of Glasgow.
